BUTTERO
The Buttero is a herder on horseback typical of the Tuscan Maremma, and more generally a rider skilled in  "work riding". The term derives from the regional Latin “butoros” or “ox goad”.
The origin and essence of the Butteri is lost in the wild and inhospitable Tuscany of the Etruscans and has come down to the present day.
Il Buttero is the symbol of the Maremma, a land of boundless countryside. With the advent of the large estates over the centuries, the figure of Buttero became central to the Maremma economy and familiar in every village worthy of the name.
